Restaurant Codium is located in the center of Goes, Zeeland. Taken from seaweed, the name Codium symbolizes local ingredients used in its kitchen. The cuisine is fresh, light, and deep in flavor. With special attention for wine and wine-food pairings.
Codium is the first restaurant run by chef Wouter Kik and sommelier Jean-Luc Etienne. Starting in June, a building on the Vlasmarkt previously occupied by a bailiff's office has been completely renovated and transformed. Now, a kitchen and dining area occupy the first floor, with restrooms upstairs on the second.
This enormous renovation left a limited budget for the visual translation of Codium, posing a great challenge for designer Anouk van de Sande. She shaped both the corporate identity and the interior based on the personality, desires, and cuisine of the new owners.
Dining at Codium is a unique experience. Sublime ingredients, pleasant service, and a unique interior all form one seamless whole. With unique contrasts and surprising transitions. Chic, yet accessible.

The space is divided into different sections, each sharing its own unique story concerning distinctive elements of the menu such as flavor, quality, and origin of the ingredients. Meant to spark the guests' curiosity and invite them for a repeat visit.
Codium's dark green wall and ceiling, covered with hanging seaweed-like cacti make it an intimate setting. As if underwater, with light rippling through the surface. Shades of green around a matte black tabletop form a canvas for slim cutlery and sophisticated tableware.
On one wall, a dark green color contrasts a slightly pinkish sand-colored ceiling. On another, a slatted panel runs ceiling to floor and playfully changes color as the angle of view changes.
Near the kitchen, the chef's table is an earthy experience featuring a wooden tabletop with warm coral colors, terra shades, and subtle gold accents. Just as intense as the chocolate mousse dessert.
The restrooms distinguish themselves with expressive wine red colors for women and sea green for men, with chic terrazzo tiles in soft pink and green.
The Italian Pedrali chairs frames supplied by Interior Works Amsterdam, in dark green, red-brown, and cream with matching frames. The parquet of rosy Canadian oak, just as the unique tables and other furniture are executed by van den Dongen in Goes. Botanical advisory and supplies by Plantaardig Middelburg. Everything is designed with care and attention for detail.

All elements combine to form a cozy, warm, open, and surprising whole. A culinary experience served by Wouter and Jean-Luc.
